Audubon To Host Breakfast With The Birds

On the weekend of the Great Backyard Bird Count, the Audubon Community Nature Center is holding a pancake breakfast and bird activities on Saturday, Feb. 17.

The public is invited to Breakfast with the Birds Saturday at the Audubon Community Nature Center from 9 to 11 a.m. Breakfast will include a pancake breakfast to go with a morning at the birdfeeders.

This weekend celebrates the Great Backyard Bird Count, a project of Cornell Lab of Ornithology, National Audubon Society, and Birds Canada that launched in 1998 to track where birds end up in the winter just before they begin migrating in the spring.

There will be bird quizzes, bird programs and helpful volunteers who are counting birds at the Nature Center’s feeders. They will show you how the count works as well as how to identify some of those hard to identify birds.

Bring a little bit of extra cash with you to participate in a basket raffle to win a birding basket full of bird books and supplies for adults and children alike.

Cost for the event is $16, $12 for Nature Center members and children 3-15, free for ages 2 and under.

Paid reservations are requested by today. The price increases by $5 for later registrations.

For more information and to register, call 716-569-2345 during business hours or go to AudubonCNC.org and click through “Programs and Events.”

Audubon Community Nature Center is located at 1600 Riverside Road, one-quarter mile east of Route 62 between Jamestown and Warren. Visit the nearly 600-acre nature preserve, check in on the live birds of prey, and hike the more than five miles of trails dawn until dusk daily for free.

The three-story Nature Center building houses interactive displays, a collection of live animals including the Hellbender exhibit, and the Blue Heron Gift Shop. Visitors are welcome Mondays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Sundays, 1 to 4:30 p.m. Nature Center members and SNAP/EBT cardholders have free building admission daily. Building admission is also free every Sunday for non-Nature Center members.
