In the new year, the Prendergast Library is offering more programs on Saturdays in response to community feedback.

Programs include all ages crafting on the first Saturday of each month at 1:30 p.m. and open play in the Makerspace every Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Beginning in February, the library will also run an all-ages storytime on the second Saturday of each month at 1:30 p.m. with stories and songs followed by time for hands-on play in the Makerspace.

For families looking to stay busy during the upcoming school break, the Prendergast Library has several special programs.

On Thursday, Feb. 22, at 5 p.m. the library will run a Stuffed Animal Storytime. Bring a favorite stuffed animal and wear pajamas to a special evening story time. The storytime will be followed by a beginning sewing craft. The story time is for children ages 5 and up and registration is required by calling 716-484-7135, ext. 234.

On Friday, Feb. 23, at 2 p.m., tweens are invited to the Makerspace to design a cardboard skatepark. Participants will make their own skatepark and receive a Tech Deck mini skateboard to take home. The event is for children ages 8 to 14, with registration required by calling 716-484-7135, ext. 234.

The library’s Makerspace and play area will have extended hours during Midwinter Break. The Makerspace is the library’s dedicated space for learning through play. The space includes arts and crafts tables, a toddler play area, and activities for all ages, from infants to teens. Ongoing activities include our Lego wall, magnatiles, marble runs, magnetic ramp wall, light tables, and fort building.

The Makerspace will be available for open play Tuesday, Feb. 20, through Friday, Feb. 23, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Regular afternoon staff-led programming will continue as well on Tuesday through Friday from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Note that children ages 8 and under must be supervised by a parent or guardian.
