SHERMAN — The Sherman Central School Board appointed Leslie Melquist as the district’s new principal effective Jan. 2, 2024, with a unanimous vote at its November meeting.

Melquist has 20 years of service in public education, including nine years in administration as either principal or assistant principal. Most recently, she has been serving in the position of principal of Jefferson Middle School since July 2019.

“We are thrilled to welcome Mrs. Melquist to our Wildcat family,” said Carrie Yohe, Sherman superintendent. “We are confident that Mrs. Melquist will continue to uphold our commitment to educational excellence and student-centered learning. Mrs. Melquist’s leadership, vision, and dedication to nurturing a supportive learning community align perfectly with our values and mission.”

“I am excited for the opportunity to become part of the Sherman Central School community,” Melquist said, “and look forward to continuing the path of excellence by working in collaboration with teachers, students, and families.”

Melquist resides in Jamestown with her husband, Todd, and their four children: Alexandra, Graciella, Christopher, and Katherine. Many of their evenings and weekends are spent supporting their kids at music concerts or athletic events.

In their free time, they also enjoy relaxing on the lake and golfing, with all of their family and friends. Melquist has purchased and trained a chocolate lab named Coco, who is a certified therapy dog.
