The Ellicot Republican Party is endorsing a slate of incumbents for the Nov. 7 general election.
The group includes Janet Bowman, town supervisor; Amy Bellardo, town clerk; Rob White, councilman in Ward 2; Katy Whitmore in Ward 3 and Ken Swan in Ward 4. The party also endorses incumbent District 15 county legislator Lisa A. Vanstrom.
"Over the last few years, carefully planned by design and elected by our people, a very effective team has been created in our area. Behind the scenes, this team has worked hard for the Town of Ellicott to keep it a great place to live, work and raise a family," party members said in a news release.
Republicans touted the group's background in manufacturing, building trades, commercial finance, clerical leadership and government experience and its methods of investing, managing infrastructure equipment, negotiating and frugal budgeting.
"The team shows perseverance by finding a way to get things done, sticking to the subject, asking the tough questions, knowing the numbers, and always pursuing what is right for our town. And mostly, this team shows consideration and kindness by making sure the rules are fair, being open and polite, and treating people like they would want to be treated," members said in a news release.
Goals if re-elected include keeping taxes low by preventing frivolous spending, controlling cost, and assuring needed services; maintaining the Ellicott Police Department force by investing in people, processesand equipment; holding structured, concise, open town hall meetings; providing for town infrastructure, green spaces, utilities and neighborhoods; promoting projects tied to business investment and growth; and continued unanimous opposition to the Dow Street substation annexation.
