The grim scent of house fire smoke wafted over Dunkirk’s First Ward again Tuesday morning, with a furnace fire reported at 274 Lake Shore Drive East. The road, which carries busy Route 5, was blocked by the Dunkirk Police Department as the Dunkirk Fire Department fought the fire. Reported about 10:15 a.m., the fire was apparently under control within half an hour. There were no apparent injuries. The road was reopened after 11.
