Thompson Running For County Legislature

Amy Thompson

Amy Thompson, a teacher and active community member, is running for election to the Chautauqua County Legislative seat in District 16 representing the towns of Carroll, Kiantone and Poland.

The mother of two college-aged sons, she is a longtime resident and taxpayer in Poland. Thompson has been a public school teacher in Chautauqua County for the past 24 years, currently teaching high school social studies at Frewsburg Middle/High School. In addition to her high school courses, Thompson is also a College Connections instructor of psychology and economics through Jamestown Community College.

Thompson holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University at Buffalo and a Masters Degree in Education from Niagara University. She has received numerous recent awards and recognitions for teaching and serves in a professional leadership capacity as a teacher mentor, Student Council advisor, First Amendment First Vote advisor, and a member of the Frewsburg Central School District Wellness Committee.

Thompson’s community service continues in the non-profit sector, where she currently serves on the executive board of Allegheny Highlands Council of Boy Scouts of America, a committee leader for the Frewsburg Scouts BSA Troop, a blood drive organizer for the Community Blood Bank and as a volunteer for many other local organizations. Some of her memberships include the American Legion Auxiliary and the Jamestown Area Community Orchestra.

A newcomer to elected office, Thompson seeks to add a common sense perspective and voice of cooperation to county government.

“Many of our county taxpayers are dissatisfied with the ongoing lack of progress here in Chautauqua County,” Thompson said. “I think our legislature needs to be more open to cooperating across party lines and using common sense to do what’s best for all voters.”

Thompson has sought and received the Common Sense Party line on the Nov. 7 ballot, as well as the Democratic Party’s endorsement. Thompson has been endorsed by the United Auto Workers (UAW), Eleanor’s Legacy, the Sierra Club, and the Frewsburg Faculty Association.

Starting at $3.50/week.
