Prevention Works Offers Parenting Programs

Prevention Works is offering free discussion groups for parents of children up to age 12 and one-on-one meetings with parents and caregivers.

Prevention Works uses the Triple P — Positive Parenting Program. The discussion group has four topics: dealing with disobedience, developing good bedtime routines, hassle-free shopping, and managing fighting and aggression. Within each of these topics, there are many universal strategies that can be used in many situations. Group discussions include the importance of consistency, routines and common parent traps.

The first four Fridays of every month from 10 a.m. to noon Prevention Works offers free discussion groups at the Mental Health Association, 31 Water St., Suite 7, Jamestown, with the option to join via Zoom. In November, the agency’s family wellness coordinator will be offering a free evening virtual-only discussion group for parents and caregivers. Prevention Works officials said they want to meet parents one-on-one to discuss specific concerns and provide resources.
