Area Author Featured At Shorewood Event

Local author Deborah Madar will be presenting her newest novel, “A Deeper Dive,” at Shorewood Country Club on Sept. 26 at 6:30 p.m.

DUNKIRK — The Shorewood Book Club, presented by the Shorewood Women’s Association, will hold its annual presentation featuring a local author at the Shorewood Country Club on Sept. 26.

Beginning at 6:30 p.m. that day, author Deborah Madar of Bemus Point will be sharing her new book “A Deeper Dive.” The presentation will last 45 minutes, after which Madar will answer questions about the book.

Madar, a graduate of the State University of New York at Fredonia, taught high school and college English for several years before she decided to use her knowledge of writing for a different purpose. Her previous works prior to “A Deeper Dive” include “Convergence,” and “Dark Riddle.”

The book centers on a widowed librarian named Merrill Connor, who reinvents herself as a podcaster, gaining such a following that she decides to investigate a cold case of a local woman who disappeared 20 years ago. This research leads Connor directly into the path of a killer.

Local readers will be more aware of some extra Easter eggs that are in the book, including locations such as Lily Dale, the Amish communities and Lake Erie.

The first book club presentation in 2019 was author Karen Wielenski, who lost her husband when Flight 3407 crashed into her home in Clarence in 2009. Wielenski then wrote the book “One on the Ground,” which detailed her experiences with the event. That presentation drew quite the crowd, and since then, they have continued to do them. During the pandemic, the presentations were done over Zoom, but they picked up in-person again last year, as author Jill Kryzyzanowicz, also known by Margo Reilly, presented her book “When the Apple Falls Far from the Tree.”

The event will be free of charge and open to the public, and a cash bar will be available along with snacks courtesy of the SWA. Reservations to the event are appreciated and can be made at 716-366-1880, extension 3.

Madar’s book can be found on Amazon, Kindle, and at Barnes and Noble, and will also be on sale at the event along with her previous novels. More information can be found about Madar on her website, https://www.deborahmadar.com/
