Hazeltine Public Library To Host Author Series

Hazeltine Public Library announced that its author series will begin Monday, Aug. 21, and continue each Monday through Oct. 9.

The author series showcases local authors in a variety of genres, talking about their writing process and the final publication. The events begin at 6:30 p.m. each Monday in the Community Building of the library. They are free and open to the public with no reservations required.

The author series begins with Catherine D’Agostino, a SUNY graduate and Fredonia resident who has written her first mystery, “Braided Lies.” The story is set in the Thousand Islands and follows the unsolved deaths of two high school seniors.

Well-known Jamestown Gazette past editor and freelance writer, Walt Pickut, returns on Aug. 28. Pickut has written a true spy story, “The First Counterspy; Larry Haas, Bell Aircraft and the FBI’s attempt to capture a Soviet Mole.” This story is pulse-quickening and traumatic story of spy, counterspy, and an American family unwittingly caught in its web with a local tie-in.

The series continues Sept. 11 with poet Alicia Willsie. She is a Pennsylvania native with a degree in English. Willsie moved to New York state later in life and has over 30 years of writing experience and has published several poems.

Deb Madar has published her third novel, “A Deeper Dive,” a story of friendship and reinvention later in life. Madar is a native of Western New York and has set each of her works in the area.

Local historian and genealogist Adrienne Ploss will be at the library on Sept. 25. Ploss is fascinated with local history and has used her skills to uncover the story of her family farm in “Go Back, You Forgot the Flowers.”

Steve Sorenson refers to himself as “The Everyday Hunter,” and has written and published extensively about hunting, life skills and that connection. His latest publication is “The Caretaker Predator.”

The author series will conclude on Oct. 9 with a presentation by Bob Terreberry, a retired teacher now living in Maple Springs. He has written “A Colin O’Brien Maple Springs Mystery” series.

The library is located at 891 Busti Sugargrove Road, Jamestown.

Starting at $3.50/week.
