Harmony Senior Citizens Meet For Chicken Barbecue
Harmony Senior Citizens met July 6 at the Panama United Methodist Church for a chicken barbecue prepared by Jim Larson of Mayville.
Forty-six members and one guest, Laverne Terrill, were present. President Roberta Karlsonwelcomed friends, neighbors, members and guests asked members to say “Hello” to an old friend and introduce yourself to someone new. Marty Lafredo read “Angels among us,” offered the dinner prayer and led the flag salute.
Wendie Raynor read the minutes of the May meeting. As there were no additions or corrections, the minutes were approved as read. Mary Lou Garfield gave the treasurers report.
Vice President Laurie Russell recognized the following members present at meeting celebrating birthdays for the months of June and July: Dottie Enlow and Donny Keller. The following members celebrated birthdays during June and July but were not present at the meeting: Peachie James, Judy Prechtl, Ken Warren, Bonnie Abers, and Betty Hall. They will be sent birthday cards.
Dottie Enlow, trip chairperson, stated a trip is scheduled for Sept. 8 for a tour of the Zippo museum followed by a meal at Spragues Maple Farm.
Laurie Russell has volunteered to coordinate monthly hosts and table committee signup for the year 2023-2024. Please get a group of four people together and pick your month to serve.
Update on the Senior Citizen’s Day to he held on Aug. 19. Ray Wood has agreed to provide music at the four corners in Panama. Parade starts at 11 a.m. with lunch sponsored by Ashville UMC served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., bingo at 1 p.m., movie and popcorn at 2 p.m., 4 p.m. dinner sponsored by Panama Baptist Church and Outdoor concert with Jeff and Joy Krajna at the Panama Baptist Church.
Under new business, President Roberta Karlson asked if it would be possible to hold off the installation of offices for the coming year until the October meeting.
Dottie Enlow has volunteered to be the chairperson of nominations of officers tor the coming year. Mary Keeney and Sally Hagg agreed to audit the books.
The next meeting is scheduled for Aug. 3 at noon for a tureen dinner. Members are asked to bring a dish to share and their own table service. Table hosts for August are Fred and Laurie Russell and Tom and Birdie Karlson. The K-9 unit from the Sheriff’s Department will be giving a presentation.
