FALCONER -- The Thule Lodge is the Swedish organization formed 116 years ago to help the Swedish immigrants with housing, employment and schooling. Many Swedish immigrants settled in the Jamestown area, and found employment in the many furniture factories which existed at one time. Today, Thule Lodge exists to preserve the Swedish heritage through events and activities. Susan Fredrickson Washington Sipos is the lodge chairman.
Recently at the Falcon's Nest in Falconer, members and guests gathered for the lodge monthly meeting and the annual Memorial Service. Lodge secretary and lodge historian John Sipos gave the roll call of officers and led all in the pledge of allegiance. Following was the reading of the minutes. Treasurer of the lodge Loretta Smith gave the financial report and said that in June will be the annual "Midsommar" dinner, catered by the 3C's. This is the celebration of the beginning of summer. Reservation cards will be sent out.
The annual Scandinavian Folk Festival will be held on Saturday, July 15 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. and on Sunday, July 16 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. in the Jamestown Northwest Arena.
Following the business meeting, the Memorial service was held. The service included special readings, and lighting of candles in memories of those who have passed away in the last year. Six members were remembered. Family members were invited and introduced themselves. Yellow and blue carnations were given to family members following the solemn ceremony. Long may they be remembered.
Refreshments were then served to all with a special cake provided by the 3C's. Thule Lodge welcomes new members.
