Studio Dance Conservatory To Host Recital Saturday

Studio Dance Conservatory will present Colors 2023: Petra and the She Wolf, excerpts from Swan Lake and other dances Saturday, June 10, at 4:30 p.m. at the Chautauqua Institution Amphitheater. Studio Dance Conservatory will present its annual recital, Colors 2023, Saturday, June 10, at 4:30 p.m. at the Chautauqua Institution Amphitheater.

Ballet, Contemporary, and Hip Hop will be performed by beginner through advanced students and Studio Dance instructors. The recital is open to the public. Tickets are available pre-sale and at the door: $10 for general admission; $5 for youth 12 and under, five and under will be admitted for free.

The entire student body will perform a children’s symphonic classic renamed Petra and the She Wolf to music composed by Sergei Prokoviev. Director Libby Nord has choreographed Studio’s adaptation to this classic score. She has taken out the narration and cast the lead dancers with females instead of males. Peter will be Petra, performed by Julianna Main (Ballet IV, Contemporary II), the Wolf will be a She Wolf performed by Mackenzie Zuech (Ballet IV, Contemporary II, Musical Theater Dance) and the Grandfather will be a Grandmother performed by Kimberly Evan (Ballet IV). The Bluebird will be performed by Reagan Howard (Ballet IV, Contemporary II), the Duck by Audrina Lent (Ballet IV, Contemporary II, Musical Theater Dance) and the Cat by Sarah DiDomenico (Ballet IV, Contemporary II, Musical Theater Dance). Also included in the cast is the Meadow performed by Grace Anderson, Jennie Cross (both Studio instructors), Isabella Wilder and Alyzza Zuech (Zuech-Contemporary II and both Ballet IV, Musical Theater Dance). The Forest will be performed by Adult Ballet’s Terry Fera, Brooke Kelly, Ali McMahan and Diane Schuh, along with Lydia Kennelley (Musical Theater Dance) and Madilyn Lent (Contemporary II, Musical Theater Dance). The Pond will be performed by Ballet II’s Eve Barber, Everly Heintzman, Karma, Johnson (also Hip Hop) and Keira Bloomquist, Kaidence Clopp (both Ballet III, Contemporary I) and lead by Lydia Petry (Ballet IV, Contemporary II). The Flowers will be lead by Audrey McAffee (Ballet III) and will include Creative Movement’s Edith Brown, Maeve Griffith, Lainey Fagerstrom and Iris Johnson. Also performing as Flowers are Ballet I’s Landry Burch, Elliana DiNapoli, Elin Fagerstrom, Payton Garcia, Natalia Ortiz and Nina Sweeney. There are two Hunters performed by Miller Griffith (Ballet II) and Zooey Pate (Musical Theater Dance, Contemporary I, Hip Hop). Ellie Brunenavs (Musical Theater Dance), Daman Holland (Studio Instructor) and Michael Giambelluca (Contemporary II) will round out this year’s Colors production in other dance pieces.

Grace Anderson has staged two Swan Lake variations for Studio’s Ballet III/IV and Adult Ballet, along with an original piece choreographed for Studio’s Contemporary I called Sink or Swim. Jennie Cross has choreographed a Musical Theatre Dance piece to Blow, Gabriel, Blow (Anything Goes), and staged a variation, Cygnets, from Swan Lake for Ballet IV. Daman Holland has choreographed two pieces for Studio’s Contemporary II: Impossible Dream and a Bollywood number Tudap-Tudap. Anderson, Cross and Holland will perform a Swan Lake Pas De Trois variation. Besides Petra and the She Wolf, Nord has also choreographed a Swan Lake variation for Ballet III/IV and a Hip Hop piece to a Studio Hip Hop Mix. Student instructors Ava Laury, Audrina Lent and Sarah DiDomenico have choreographed a Swan Lake variation for Studio’s Creative Movement, Ballet I and Ballet II. Lent and DiDomenico have also choreographed and will perform a Contemporary duet called Dancing in the Sky. Julianna Main has choreographed and will perform a Contemporary solo that she is dedicating to her mother called A Mother’s Lullaby.

Studio has two graduating seniors this year. Olivia Allen-Fiedler is graduating from Southwestern High School and Julianna Main from Frewsburg High School. Allen-Fiedler has danced with Studio Dance for 12 years and Main has danced 10 years, six with CRYB and four with Studio Dance. Both have achieved numerous scholastic accomplishments, accolades and awards. They plan to attend Jamestown Community College.
