First Lutheran Church To Host Special Music And Worship On Easter Sunday

The First Lutheran Church will have special music at both the 9 a.m. contemporary worship service and the 11 a.m. traditional worship service on Easter Sunday, April 9.

The 9 a.m. service will feature instrumental and vocal music both live and on video. The opening Song of Praise is “Glorious” by P. Baloche & B. Brown; Special music will include “I Will Rise” by L. Glio, C. Tomlin, M. Maher, J. Reeves; Communion Hymn is Remembrance (The Communion Song) by M. Maher, and M. Redman; the Sending Praise Song is “All the Earth Will Sing Your Praises” by P. Baloche. Pastor Mark E. Swanson will deliver the Easter message.

Child care is provided at both worship services. The Contemporary service will be video recorded and available on-line at Sacred Fire First Lutheran Jamestown Facebook page; First Lutheran Church Facebook page, and the church website www.flcjny.org. Kimberly King is the worship leader and coordinator of contemporary worship with Sacred Fire Praise Team members Kimberly King, Les King, Andrea Magnuson, Doug Anthony, Elaine Rissel and Brenda Ecklund.

There will be a half hour of special prelude music beginning at 10:30 a.m. prior to the 11 a.m. traditional worship service. Musical selections will include an organ solo “Easter-Dawn” by Aloys Clausmann, played by Brian Bogey; Marika Koch, soprano soloist, will sing “I Know That My Redeemer Lives” from Handel’s “Messiah”; Gail Espinoza, pianist, will perform Resurrection Medley” arranged by Mark Hayes; Bogey will play the “Toccata in D Minor (the Dorian) by J. S. Bach; The Good News Hand Bell Ensemble conducted by Karen Linn, will perform “Fanfare for Easter” by Sonda Tucker, accompanied by Trumpeters Brandon Caruso and Glenn Utter; Julie Costantini, soprano soloist, will sing “Alleluia” by Ferdinand Hummel.

The 11 a.m. traditional worship service with Holy Communion will include festive Easter hymns, “Jesus Christ is Risen Today,” “Christ the Lord is Risen Today, Alleluia,” “At the Lamb’s High Feast”, and “Thine Is the Glory” accompanied by organ and brass. The First Lutheran Choir will sing two anthems “In Christ Alone” arranged by Bennjamin Harlan, and accompanied by Gail Espinoza, pianist. They will also perform “Now is Christ Risen” by George Handel and arranged by Hal H. Hopson, accompanied by organ and trumpets. Samantha Granbow will be guest soprano soloist, and she will perform the “Alleluia” (from “Exsultate, Jubilate”) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, during the communion portion of the service. The organ postlude will be “Allegro” (from “Symphony No. 6”) by Charles Marie Widor.

Worship participants at the 11 a.m. traditional worship service will include the Rev. Mark E. Swanson, Pastor; Brian A. Bogey, organist/choirmaster; Brandon Caruso and Glenn Utter, guest trumpeters; Peter Larson, liturgist; Fred Larson, lector; Beth Johnson, hymn cantor, Marika Koch, Psalm cantor; and Jane Young, videographer. The service will also be on the First Lutheran Church Jamestown Facebook page and on the church website www.flcjny.org. The public is cordially welcome to attend.
