Lakewood Seeking Old Flags To Retire

The Lakewood American Legion Post 1286 is driving home the point to let people know about how to retire an American flag. Currently, boxes are placed around the village for people to deposit their old worn out flags that are no longer fit for display. Flags will be collected until the end of May and on Flag Day, June 14, at 7 p.m. a ceremony at Post 1286 on flag etiquette and flag disposal will be held. This event will be open to the public. Anyone interested in hosting a drop box please call David Erin Anthony at 716-396-6758. Additionally, unserviceable flags can be dropped at almost any American Legion at any time, but if you’re looking for a new high quality American made U.S. flag they are for sale at The Lakewood legion, as well as other Legion posts in Chautauqua County. Portions of the proceeds from flag sales helps fund needed projects at area legion posts. The Lakewood American Legion Post 1286 is at 174 Chautauqua Ave. Submitted photo
