The Jamestown YMCA has purchased a building it has operated out of for several years.

The Post-Journal and OBSERVER have been analyzing real estate transactions in the Chautauqua County Clerk’s Office and recently looked at the sales from the first half of September.

During that time period Gerry Homes sold 155 Prather St., Jamestown to Young Men’s Christian Association of Jamestown NY Inc. for $300,000. This is the location of the Heritage House.

According to John Barber with the YMCA, Gerry Homes had at one time operated a childcare center out of it. The YMCA took over the childcare center in 2012. As time went on they expanded their programming there, started paying rent and in the fall was able to buy the building.

“We had a real good relationship with Heritage,” said Barber. “This fits within our mission.”

CLOSED MANUFACTURING PLANT

Also during that time period, Gowanda Rem-Tronics LLC of Dunkirk sold 653 Brigham Road, Dunkirk to Press Holdings LLC for $390,000.

No announcement has been made as to the future of the former manufacturing plant. Press Holdings has a mailing address of 11100 Bennett State Road, Forestville.

REM-Tronics closed the Dunkirk location in November, 2020. About 70 employees were affected.

REM-Tronics served a wide-array of industries, including aerospace, space, medical, and military industries. Manufactured products include electromagnetic, electromechanical, and solenoid coils, cables, harnesses, fiber optic assemblies and plastic molded components.

REM-Tronics’ parent company was Gowanda Components Group, which is still in operation.

TOP SALES

From Sept. 1-15, there were 199 transactions, with 159 of them more than $1. Of those sales, 27 were $250,000 or higher. Eight of the sales were in the town of Chautauqua (six of which were in Chautauqua Institution), four were in the town of Ellicott, three were in the town of Hanover (one in the village of Silver Creek), two in the city of Dunkirk, two in the town of Pomfret (both in the village of Fredonia), and one each in the towns of Busti, Dunkirk, Frewsburg, Mina, Ellery, Kiantone, North Harmony and the city of Jamestown.

The sales included Tanglewood Manor and Frewsburg Rest Home, as well as a former Cliffstar office building, which were previously reported by this newspaper.
