New Member Inducted Into Local NSDAR Chapter

The Benjamin Prescott Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution held its regular monthly meeting Nov. 3 at the Patterson Library in Westfield. There were 13 members present.

The opening ceremony was conducted by Regent Bonnie Larkin who then introduced new member, Teresa Wilde. Larkin and Chaplain Elizabeth Sedlmayer then inducted Wilde into the Benjamin Prescott Chapter NSDAR. Wilde received a yellow rose and a welcoming packet.

The DAR President General’s Message was summarized by Larkin. Members are asked to support schools. Larkin then mentioned the William G. Pomeroy Foundation and Historic Marker Program. The program recognizes points of interest during the Revolutionary period. Members were asked to research their patriots to determine if a marker is possible.

The National Defense Article was read by Linda Kuzara. It spoke about the importance of wearing red on Fridays to support the men and women of the U.S. military.

The Blue Star Mothers are asking for care packages or items for care packages.

Wreaths across America will be held on Saturday, Dec. 17. The Blue Star Mothers and several WNY DAR chapters have sponsorship forms. Wreaths are $15 each and several local cemeteries participate in the event that begins at noon.

The Patriot Minute was given by Elizabeth Mourer. She spoke about her patriot, Samuel Love, who was born in Scotland in 1728 and was a cooper by trade. He married his wife Rosanna and they had six children. He enlisted on Jan. 23, 1776.

Walter Sedlmayer then spoke about the importance of both Memorial Day and Veterans Day.

The next regular meeting is scheduled for March 2, 2023, at the Patterson Library at 1 p.m.
