Chautauqua, Mayville To Hold Comprehensive Plan Meeting

MAYVILLE — The town of Chautauqua and village of Mayville invite all residents and community stakeholders to kick off the town and village’s joint comprehensive plan by participating in a public informational meeting on Thursday at 6 p.m.

The meeting will be held at the Carlson Community Center (50 West Lake Road, Mayville).

The comprehensive plan is one of a municipality’s most important documents. It establishes a baseline of where the town and village priorities have been, identifies the community’s future vision, prioritizes local and regional policies and action items, and gives context to future decision-making on public and private investments in our community. Through this framework, the comprehensive plan assists the community in achieving its future vision for smart growth, environmental stewardship, and economic development.

By developing a joint comprehensive plan, the town and village will be well-positioned to identify opportunities to further coordinate services and programming and promote development patterns that complement and benefit both communities. The town and village initiated the comprehensive planning process by submitting an application to the NYS Smart Growth Comprehensive Planning Grant Program in July. To keep the momentum on this project moving while awaiting the announcement of funding awards, the town and village will be hosting a public informational meeting and launching a community survey. Attendees of the meeting on Sept. 29 will:

¯ hear a presentation on the benefits and basics of community comprehensive planning,

¯ hear an overview of completed tasks and next steps,

¯ preview the draft project website,

¯ learn about the upcoming community survey that will help inform the comprehensive plan.

All residents, business and property owners, community leaders, and individuals with an interest in the future of the town of Chautauqua and village of Mayville are welcome to participate in this public informational meeting. Your participation in this project is essential to directing the joint comprehensive plan and ensuring it reflects the vision and values of the community.
