A special ceremony was held recently to celebrate the graduates of the UPMC Chautauqua Medical Laboratory Science Program. Graduates received a certificate of completion allowing them to complete their Bachelor of Science degree at their respective universities.

With a 40-year history, the UPMC Chautauqua Medical Laboratory Science Program is an accredited, 45-week, preceptorship offering intensive study and clinical experience in medical laboratory science as the final year of a bachelor’s degree in medical technology. The rigorous year is designed to develop a highly competent laboratory professional ready to perform vital diagnostic tests.

“These graduates have not only have learned how to use special techniques and instrumentation in the diagnosis of disease, but they also have an in-depth knowledgebase to support clinicians and to problem solve difficult cases,” said Michele Harms, program director. “Completing our preceptorship is a significant accomplishment for these graduates of which each should be very proud. Now it is time for their certification and licensing exams.”

This year’s graduates are: Brent Buxton (SUNY Fredonia), Gabriella Chudy (SUNY Fredonia), Danielle Kline (Roberts Wesleyan College), Kayla Purcell (SUNY Fredonia), Christopher Reuman (SUNY Fredonia), and Rebecca Zdilla (SUNY Fredonia).

“I encourage each of our graduates to build upon the foundational knowledge they have obtained over this past year to not only find a career, but also to excel in it and be an asset to wherever their journey takes them.” said Kyle Jordan, program coordinator.
