New and returning students to P-TECH in Dunkirk recently “elevated” their experience in the program by attending Summer Bridge.
As part of the weeklong, team building and get-to-know-you activity, students were treated to a trip to Peek’n Peak.
“Summer Bridge gives incoming students a chance to meet with some of our current students, to learn about the school they’ll enter in September, and to enjoy some fun STEM-related activities,” said William Smock, WNY P-TECH principal.
Forty-seven students in grades 9-12 spent hours on the Aerial Adventure Course and on the Peek’n Putt greens, getting to know each other in a fun and informal setting.
“Each year, we host this weeklong event for our new students to get acclimated into our school culture,” Smock said. “This will be a new experience for many of our students so we look at this opportunity as a way for them to get any jitters out and hit the ground running in September.”

Students from 10 districts attended Summer Bridge, including the districts of Dunkirk, Fredonia, Lake Shore, Silver Creek, Gowanda, Jamestown, Chautauqua Lake, Pine Valley, Holland, and Westfield.
WNY P-TECH is an all-day program housed in a state-of-the-art facility located at 55 East Benton St., Dunkirk. Students enroll in P-TECH as ninth graders and follow one of three fields of study in Welding, Mechanical Technology with specializations in CADD or Machine Tool, or Mechatronics. Upon complete of the program, students earn an associate degree through Jamestown Community College with no out-of-pocket expense.
