Prendergast Library Is Launching New Partnership With St. Susan Center
The Prendergast Library is launching a new partnership with St. Susan Center.
Over the next few months, library staff will visit the St. Susan Center for crafting classes and storytimes.
Last year, through a grant from Cummins, Inc., library staff connected with St. Susan to donate children’s books for their holiday meal program. Through this donation, a new partnership grew. Cherie Rowland, St. Susan Center’s executive director, surveyed guests at the center to see what type of programs they would be interested in having the library offer.
“Our guests are excited to participate in crafting classes and storytimes. Promoting literacy and educational opportunities for community members ties perfectly with our mission to provide food, fellowship, dignity, and respect to all who come through our doors,” Rowland said.
Crafting classes are scheduled for Tuesday, June 14, July 12, and Aug. 9 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. On June 14, participants can learn the basics of knitting and crochet. On July 12, the craft is watercolor painting, and on August 9, those attending can make a journal.
Story times are on Saturday, June 11, July 9, and Aug. 13 from noon to 1:30 p.m. Story time includes stories, songs, and games. In addition, a free book will be given out through a grant from Cummins Inc..
The crafting classes and storytimes will take place at St. Susan Center during meal times, and no registration is needed. In addition, library staff will have information on how to get a library card and participate in the Summer Reading Program, which begins June 25.
This new program is supported by a grant from the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation and a sponsorship from Rogers Land Surveying PC. For more information on library programs and services, call 716-484-7135 or visit www.prendergastlibrary.org.
