JHS Musicians Named To Conference, Zone 1 All State

Several Jamestown High School musicians have been honored as state Conference All State and Zone 1 Area All-State musicians.

The state Conference All-State musicians traveled to Rochester on Dec. 2 to participate in three full days of rehearsals culminating in concerts at the Eastman Theater on Dec. 4-5.

The NYSSMA Conference All-State Festival features the best musicians in all of New York state. The students selected from Jamestown are: Madeline DeJoy, Horn – Concert Band, Donovan Gomez, Tenor 1 – Mixed Chorus, Meghan Mistretta, Euphonium – Concert Band and Bradley Galeazzo – Bass 1- Mixed Chorus Alternate.

The NYSSMA Zone 1 Area All-State Festival features the best musicians in Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Erie and Niagara counties.

The students selected from Jamestown are: Elsa Lumia, Violin – String Orchestra, Bradley Galeazzo, Bass 1 – Mixed Chorus, Brighton Lumia, Horn – Symphony Orchestra, Liam Conroe, Tenor Saxophone – Concert Band, Donovan Gomez, Tenor 1 – Mixed Chorus, Meghan Mistretta, Euphonium – Concert Band, McKenna Schneider, Trombone – Concert Band and Madeline DeJoy, Horn – Concert Band.

“The NYSSMA Conference All-State Festival features the best musicians in all of New York State and the NYSSMA Zone 1 Area All-State Festival features the best musicians in Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Erie and Niagara counties,” said Meghan Murray, JHS band director, and Lauren Scharf, JHS choral director. “Students have to audition with a solo, scales and sight reading in front of a judge in order to be selected. These students have worked incredibly hard, especially during COVID times, to keep their musicianship at the highest level. The JHS music department is extremely proud to have these students representing our programs!”
