The refinishing of their pool table is the inspiration for the Mental Health Association in Chautauqua County’s first ever pool tournament.

Doors will open at 8 p.m. and play begin at 8:15 p.m. on Fridays, Nov. 5, 12, and 19. Play will continue until 10:30 p.m., but no later than 11 p.m.

Deadline for signing up to compete is 7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 3, at the MHA in Jamestown’s Gateway Center, 31 Water St., door 14, where tournament rules will be posted.

The single elimination tourney will have up to 20 players. The final two competitors will receive prizes.

Spectators can enjoy music and refreshments provided by the MHA.

“We’re looking forward to this first-ever event as a good way to spend time with each other in the recovery community,” said Sean Jones, MHA certified recovery peer advocate and ARC grant project manager, who is organizing the tournament.

COVID protocols will be observed: Masks are required.

The evening is free of charge for both players and spectators.

With programs in Jamestown and Dunkirk, the Mental Health Association in Chautauqua County is a peer recovery center offering support groups and individual coaching for people looking to improve their lives, deepen wellness, thrive in recovery, or support those on a recovery path. Peers use their personal stories to help people find recovery in their own lives in their own way. All services are free of charge.
