Even Knievel Bike Jump
A 1974 BMX bike jump exhibition at the Versailles Community Hall is pictured. The venue has been shuttered for the past 20 months and will host its first event on Oct. 16 featuring local band Uncle Ben’s Remedy.
On Saturday October 16, the Versailles Community Hall will be the venue for a fall festival with the atmosphere of a circus bazaar.
Performers Rachel Galati & Iron Lace, Uncle Ben’s Remedy, and aerialist Lily LeStrange will grace the stage, and a juggler and balloon artist will entertain the crowd. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and $10 admission will be accepted upon entry for the all-ages show. Pizza, popcorn, beer, wine, and soda will be available for purchase.
For the past 20 months, the Versailles Community Hall has laid dormant, its 80-year-old floors untouched by dancing feet, the room devoid of the festivities it had come to know and expect over the past several decades except for a few socially distanced chess games on Tuesday nights among a handful of community members.
Uncle Ben’s Remedy will headline the show after a performance by another local favorite, Rachel Galati & Iron Lace.
Acrobat Lily LeStrange will be performing an aerial hoop show between musical acts, and during Uncle Ben’s Remedy’s show. The 21-year-old has been practicing in the circus arts for three years and is proficient in hoops (known as aerial ring or Lyra), silk acrobatics, and some trapeze.
There will be juggling arts and slight-of-hand magic performed by Scott Johnson. Local balloon artist Ruth Dieke will be on hand to share her craft with kids of any age. Pizza, popcorn, beer, wine, and soft drinks will all be available for purchase. All proceeds will benefit the Versailles Community Association.
Throughout the past eight decades, the Versailles Community Hall has been the site of countless events — square dances, weddings, parties, concerts, craft shows, and even an Evel Knieval-style BMX bike jump exhibition in 1974.
