James Prendergast Library Announces New Fundraiser Event

The James Prendergast Library is launching The Jim Roselle Community Scavenger Hunt, a new fundraiser named in honor of a true library lover and community ambassador.

The scavenger hunt will start on Monday, May 17, at 10 a.m. and end on Saturday, May 22 at 2 p.m. Those interested can register for the event at www.jplagoosechase.org. The cost is $20 per person, and children 12 and under can play free with a registered adult. Those who can’t play the game but would still like to donate to the fundraiser can do so on the website.

The fundraiser supports three critical goals of the library’s 2021-2024 strategic plan:

¯ Work with Jamestown Public Schools to increase access to library materials and services and improve literacy.

¯ Enhance community outreach.

¯ Grow partnerships with community organizations.

How does the game work? Register and pay at jplagoosechase.org. When a player purchases a ticket, they will receive a confirmation email with a game code and instructions. Download the GooseChase app from the App Store or Google Play. Create an account. Use the game code from your email to find the Jim Roselle Community game and start the missions. Library officials recommend all participants create an account that includes the player’s full name and contact information.

The game’s mission is to get people out and about in downtown Jamestown, visit nonprofits and businesses, learn more about Jamestown’s history and culture, and support the library. Play the game, earn points and win prizes. Top prizes will be awarded for most points, fastest time, best creative photo, best group/family photo, and most creative video entry.

Top prizes include a one-night stay at the historic Athenaeum Hotel, donated by Chautauqua Institution; a pair of Wayfarer Ray-Ban Sunglasses donated by Spectrum Eyecare; a $100 gift card to Landmark Restaurant, a $50 gift card to Brigiotta’s Farmland Produce & Garden Center, and a $50 gift card to the Reg Lenna Center for the Arts.

All participants are entered in a drawing to win one of six $25 gift cards to local businesses. In addition, all participants will receive a gift certificate for the library’s book sale and a library tote bag.

Sponsors include Tops Friendly Markets; Chautauqua Institution; Quick Solutions Printing; Lind Funeral Home; Fessenden, Laumer and DeAngelo, PLLC; Filegar Cutting Technologies; Abers Acres; Chautauqua Patrons Insurance Company; Lake Shore Paving; Spectrum Eyecare; Townline Auto Parts; and Raynors Liquour.
