BPU Yard Waste Site To Open April 10

The Jamestown Board of Public Utilities yard waste site for residential solid waste customers opens Saturday, April 10, for the 2021 season. Mint green-colored stickers for the 2021-22 seasons are available in the BPU customer service office.

Hours of the yard waste site this year are as follows: 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays, April 10 through Nov. 14; and 4-7 p.m. Wednesdays, effective May 5 through Sept. 29. The site is located at 1001 Monroe St. at the dead end of Monroe Street, off Eighth Street.

The yard waste Ssite is restricted to use by BPU solid waste residential customers only, as it is their garbage/recycling rate that pays for Site operations.

BPU solid waste customers who want to enter the site must display a mint green-colored 2021-22 BPU yard waste site sticker on the rear driver side window of the vehicle. The window stickers are free-of-charge to BPU solid waste residential customers; however, only one sticker is provided for each customer account.

The window stickers are available at BPU Customer Service, 92 Steele St., open from 9 a.m to 4 p.m. Mondays through Wednesdays and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays through Fridays.

Contractors will not be permitted to use the site.

Use of the window stickers allows BPU employees who staff the site to identify BPU solid waste residential customers and assures that non-BPU solid waste customers do not use the site.

At the site, customers may discard leaves, grass clippings, mulch, plants/shrubs/bushes; tree parts and brush up to eight inches in diameter. Metal, sod, concrete, rocks, dirt, lumber, wood, tires, drywall and other construction materials are not accepted.

For more information, BPU customers may call the garbage hotline at 661-1651.
