Big Tent Day At SILC Friday

Friday will mark the first big tent day at Southwestern Independent Living Center, 843 N Main St., Jamestown.

The tent will be open from noon until 3:30 p.m. and will host representatives from WIC, SNAP The Chautauqua Center and SILC. Last year SILC hosted the Big Red Tent Days, and this year SILC is continuing the effort by hosting various service providers under its new Big Blue Tent. The service providers will be available to the public for information, program enrollments and to answer questions you may have regarding their various programs.

Sarah Gilbert, representing The Chautauqua Center, will be available to discuss the center and the services it offers, including insurance enrollments, an on-site pharmacy, information about physicians and the areas the organization specializes in, as well as its behavioral health programs.

Grace McKenzie, representing WIC, will be available to discuss the Women’s, Infants and Children’s program and the new ‘debit’ card the program now utilizes. She will also have information on other events and programs she is participating in.

Alana Meyers, representing the SNAP program, will answer questions regarding eligibility, recent changes in SNAP benefits that were enacted due to the COVID pandemic, and will also be available to set up appointments for new enrollments.

Wendy Pitoniak, the new NY Connects/No Wrong Door representative for SILC, and Judy Wroda will be under the tent, also to help with information regarding the programs that Southwestern Independent Living Center administers, as well as other programs that are available to the public within Chautauqua County.

No appointments are necessary but it is requested that social distancing be observed as well as masks be worn. The tent will be located on the front lawn of SILC and will be accessible via the sidewalk. There will be a drawing for a handmade blanket for those who stop in to see the service providers, and coloring books and crayons for children.
