RTPI To Host Free Online Bird Program Today

The Roger Tory Peterson Institute will host a free online bird program focused on American Kestrels at 7 p.m. today.

As part of a monthly series of online bird programs, the Roger Tory Peterson Institute is hosting a presentation on American Kestrel conservation and recovery by Alex Shipherd, an avid birder and nature photographer. To participate in free program, get the Zoom link by emailing Twan Leenders, RTPI’s senior director of science and conservation, at tleenders@rtpi.org.

“American kestrel populations have been in decline in the northeastern U.S. over the past three decades,” Shipherd said. “Fortunately, there is substantial interest from regional landowners to support them by installing and monitoring nest boxes.”

Shipherd will discuss research and conservation efforts to increase Kestrel populations and share tips on how you can help our smallest falcon. He will also share some of the photographs he has taken of these birds.

Upcoming programs will occur on March 31 (Saw-whet and Long-eared Owls), April 28 (Personal Experiences with the NYS Breeding Bird Atlas), and May 26 (Secrets of an award-winning field guide author and digital illustrator), so save those dates to learn more about birds and birding.
