Creche Donates Sleep Sacks To UPMC Chautauqua WCA

UPMC Chautauqua nurses Tammy Johnson, RN and Angel Stack, RN hold newborn Gavin swaddled in a sleep sac provided by Creche.

For more than a century, Creche has raised significant funding in order to provide for the needs of children in Chautauqua County.

Each year, the Creche Hospital Committee helps fulfill wishes from child-related departments at UPMC Chautauqua. Creche recently made a donation to UPMC Chautauqua which enabled the non-profit organization to purchase sleep sacs for newborns.

“Creche has generously donated Halo Sleep Sacks to the newborns at UPMC Chautauqua. These sleep sacks are given to parents as part of the hospital’s Safe Sleep Program. Nurses at UPMC Chautauqua provide extensive Safe Sleep education to all parents, including the ABCs of safe sleep: Babies sleep safest Alone, on their Backs, in a Crib with a tight-fitting sheet. Sleep sacks, or wearable blankets, provide a safe alternative for loose fitting blanket for newborns. Thank you to Creche, for this important and generous donation,” said Danielle Beach, Maternity Unit director.

It is imperative for new mothers to understand the Safe Sleep Program. Creche feels it is just as important when offering funding to purchase the sleep sacs. Creche ‘s mission is to be able to support the needs of children in Chautauqua County, and that starts with the safety of newborns. Creche has supported many initiatives over the years and has collaborated their efforts with UPMC Chautauqua’s departments which provide services to children.

“As a part of the safe sleep program, The Creche, Inc. is excited to make an ongoing commitment to provide a sleep sac to each newborn at UPMC.” Dawn Columbare, Creche president

Each year, Creche evaluates the needs from the department manager and decides along with Creche’s hospital committee which needs would benefit the children the most.

“We have been very lucky to have Creche ‘s commitment to support the needs of our children at UPMC Chautauqua,” said Megan Barone, director of development. “They have been able to give the children hope, happiness and safety from their gifts. We are very grateful they continue to do the great work for the children in our community, and hope it continues for many years to come.”
