Union Relief Annual Charity Ball Canceled Due To Pandemic

WESTFIELD — The Union Relief Association, which has helped those in need in Westfield since 1880, has decided to cancel its annual Charity Ball in December due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The event, which would have celebrated its 99th anniversary this year, provides Union Relief with money to help families and senior citizens in need in the Westfield community. Union Relief members hope those who would have purchased a ticket to the ball will consider donating a similar amount to meet the needs of others in the community.

Proceeds from the Charity Ball as well as the Golfing for Gifts golf tournament, sponsored by Union Relief, enable the organization to provide food, clothing, other necessities, and small gifts to low-income families and senior citizens during the holidays. Union Relief also assists individuals in emergency situations or who have suffered a misfortune in their lives which requires intervention.

“The ability of Union Relief to provide temporary support for children, families, and senior citizens relies on the generosity of many individuals and businesses,” said Sarah Button, Union Relief president.

Monetary gifts at any level, as well as gifts in kind, are also appreciated. Checks, made payable to Union Relief Association, should be mailed to Union Relief Association, P.O. Box 454, Westfield, NY, 14787.

“We know many consider the Charity Ball one of the highlights of the holiday season,” said Button. “We’ll be ready to bring the event back in 2021!”
