Cassadaga Legion Auxiliary Holds September Meeting

CASSADAGA — The Cassadaga Legion Auxiliary Unit 1280 held its regular monthly meeting at the Legion Post on Sept. 8 with 11 senior members at the meeting and eight officers present. Guidelines were followed according to the governor’s protocol; masks were worn, social distancing was observed, and sanitizer was available.

President Lauren Sharp opened the meeting in regular fashion with the Pledge of Allegiance, the Preamble, and a moment of silence for our fallen soldiers as well as a prayer from Chaplain Paula Pattison. Secretary Carol Baker read the July meeting minutes with one correction; a motion was made and seconded to accept them as corrected. Treasurer Sue DeGolier gave the financial report; it was referred to the audit committee. Sharp handed out the 2020-2021 committee folders to the respective chairpersons.

Earlier this summer, Sharp had contacted all unit officers stating that due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the National Legion Auxiliary has requested that if possible, all units are to keep their standing 2019-2020 officers through the 2020-2021 year.

The Unit 1280 2020-21 officers inclue: President Sharp; First Vice President Lawson; Second Vice President Pat Hayward; Secretary Baker; Treasurer DeGolier; Chaplain Pattison; Sgt. at Arms Lynn Moeller; and Historian: Ranee Kaus.

Correspondence was read by the president that included a note from the Cassadaga National Night-Out committee, thanking Unit 1280 for their support of their event.

Reports by the committee chairs were as follows:

¯ Sharp announced that due to COVID-19, the Auxiliary 100th Birthday celebration will continue through 2021. Unit 1280 is displaying posters and photos on our slide show televisions in the Post, commemorating the 100th birthday, as well as notices being posted on Facebook.

¯ Pattison has recently sent out 12 cards as needed to unit members and their families.

¯ For children and youth, the unit is still contemplating having the children’s Halloween party depending on the COVID protocol. A final decision will be made at the October meeting.

¯ It was noted, for Empire Girls State, an online event was held for the girls.

¯ Finance committee did an audit of our books in July and also set the 2020-21 budget.

Historian Ranee Kaus is keeping track of the Unit’s activities and documenting them with pictures and articles for the history book.

¯ Membership chairperson Lawson reported she has received the 2021 cards, and $25 dues are being accepted. Unit members can bring their dues to the Post or mail them to: Cassadaga Auxiliary Unit 1280, PO Box 497, Cassadaga, 14718.

In old business, it was again noted that until the COVID-19 pandemic recedes, Unit 1280 will not be able to hold their funeral luncheons as they are buffet style and they are not allowed at this time.

In new business, 1280 members will be helping the Sons of the Cassadaga Legion Squadron 1280 with their Chicken BBQ in September. The annual vendors Showcase is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 24.
