YMCA Pool Meets Reopening Guidelines

Jamestown lifeguards Taylor Evan and Anthony Hren practice using a Bag Valve Mask during CPR.

The Jamestown YMCA pool opened recently after meeting state and county guidelines for reopening.

The Y is offering limited space for lap swim and water walking.

The upper pool is open to adult YMCA members ages 18 years and older and members of the 2019-20 Jets swim team. The times available are 8 to 10 a.m., 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. The first three lanes are available for lap swimmers, lane 4 is available for water walking or aqua jogging. Lanes are reserved for 50 minutes, beginning on the :05 and ending on the :55 of each hour. Adult members can call 48 hours in advance to reserve a lane, Jets may call 24 hours in advance to reserve a lane.

The locker rooms and showers will be open for adult members only. The YMCA will require temperature checks and masks for everyone entering the building. Masks are required in all common areas of the Y.

“The Y built the first pool in Jamestown, I felt it was important for us to continue to be the leaders of aquatics in the area” said Jason Chinni, Jamestown YMCA aquatic director. “There is no GPS for this journey. We have had to completely re-think the way we run and organize our pools. Our guards are drilling Bag Valve Mask usage and adapting rescues. We are adding staff to ensure sanitation, traffic flow and social distancing standards are met.

The Y is looking forward to the return of swimming to Jamestown, we have been dry too long. I am confident this launch will allow us to work to the goal of a full aquatic program schedule open up in the coming months.”

The full YMCA facilities are closed and off-limits.
