Lakers Hockey Holding Fundraiser

The Jamestown Lakers Special/Disabled Hockey organization is holding a can-drive fundraiser through July 8 at Don’s Car Wash on Fairmount Avenue in Lakewood.

“This is a great fundraiser for the organization to help us provide a no-cost program with individuals with disabilities,” said Blade Ellis, assistant to the program director and head coach of the stand-up team. “Your contribution leads to covering expenses, such as ice time, extra curricular team activities, registration, and equipment.”

After discussing with Ellis, he said that this year “is going to be the biggest year in Lakers history,” and will help build a great foundation into the community “going forward.”

“I love this program very much, and I’m glad to be part of this journey,” Ellis said. “We are going to build this organization into a powerhouse, and want to ensure we are giving an equal opportunity to individuals with disabilities a chance to play for free.”

Ellis also said the main keys to this program is to “develop long-term friendships, learn the game of hockey, grow as individuals and athletes,” and, most importantly, having fun.

“I’m going to bring all my hockey experience to this organization, and ensure we are a competitive team, meanwhile ensuring we got the right people that are truly dedicated and want to impact these kids lives,” Ellis said.

The Lakers Special/Disabled Hockey is a program that provides services for individuals with disabilities. Disabled individuals can learn the game of hockey, develop friendships, build communication skills, stay healthy, be competitive and help others.
