Area Listing Of Events Impacted By COVID-19

The following is a list of events, organizations and business that have announced changes, postponements or cancellations due to concerns over the coronavirus:

¯ The Lakewood Walmart said it is looking to hire temporary workers who may have been impacted by the new coronavirus pandemic.

In a message posted online Wednesday, the local store said: “Your Lakewood Walmart understands that these are difficult times for some and concerning times for all. As we have heard there are several business laying off workers in wake of these challenges.

“We are looking to hire some of these folks as temps to help them through these difficult times and offer them a consistent paycheck until they are able to return to their jobs. We are working to expedite the hiring process and in some cases can have the associate start the same day. If you need a temporary assignment to help you through this time please know that you have options. Apply at careers.walmart.com.”

¯ St. Susan Center in Jamestown said it is temporarily suspending its volunteer program. From now through April 6, meal service will consist of a daily bagged lunch that will be distributed in the entryway foyer at St. Susan’s. The dining room will be closed.

¯ St. Luke’s Thrift Shop in Jamestown said it will be closing beginning today until further notice.

¯ The Chautauqua County Industrial Development Agency will be holding a special meeting today at 11:45 a.m. This meeting is closed to the public but will be steamed live and can be viewed at the county IDA’s Youtube page.

¯ The Allegheny Outdoor Club said its March 22 and March 29 activities have been canceled. Updates will be given as soon as possible.

¯ The Harmony Historical Society said its April 7 business meeting and April 21 dinner and program have been canceled. New dates will be announced at a later time.

¯ The Southern Tier Tea Party Patriots has canceled its March 24 meeting.

¯ Kiantone Independent Fire Department Auxiliary Spring Craft Show, scheduled for April 4, has been postponed. A future date has not been set.

¯ The Jamestown Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department has announced program changes due to the current state of emergency due to the spread of COVID-19: the City Rec Youth Baseball sign-ups have been rescheduled to Monday, May 11, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the city Municipal Building lobbery; the Easter Egg Hunt scheduled for Saturday, April 11, in Allen Park has been canceled; the fee deadline for City Softball Leagues has been extended to Thursday, April 30. The organizational meetings have been rescheduled to Wednesday, May 13; and pavilion rentals will not be allowed until Monday, May 11. No other facility rentals, including tournaments, will be allowed until after May 11.

¯ The village of Mayville recycling center will be closed beginning immediately until further notice.

¯ The Falconer Village Board will meet Monday at 7 p.m. to vote on the Dow Street substation annexation. The meeting will not be open to the public; instead, it will be streamed live at facebook.com/FalconerNY/. The public may submit written comments in advance of the meeting by e-mail to falconer@netsync.net.

¯ The Lakewood Zoning Board of Appeals meeting scheduled for today at 7 p.m. will be closed to the public. The meeting can be viewed at: https://zoom.us/J/631443326 with a meeting ID of 631 443 326.

¯ The Chautauqua Blind Association’s 10th annual Dining in the Dark event scheduled for Friday, March 27, has been moved to Friday, July 17, at the Chautauqua Harbor Hotel in Celoron.

¯ The Ellicott Planning and Zoning meeting for tonight has been postponed.
