FBLA Holds Sophomore Career Day; Expands Opportunities

Each year, Falconer Future Business Leaders of America members strive to provide great learning opportunities to their fellow classmates. For the ninth consecutive year, members chose to host a Career Day for all sophomore students. The event was held Feb. 7.

Chapter members designed two surveys to be used in the process of matching students with their careers. The first survey asked each student to list their top two personal career interests. Once these surveys were completed, members created an outcomes summary using Microsoft Excel.

After sorting the data, the top four career areas were chosen. The sophomore class was then asked to rank the choices from 1 to 4 based on their interest in that career area. FBLA members organized the outcomes and used the data to place students into workshops.

This year FBLA decided to expand the learning opportunities. In addition to their “interest area” workshop, they attended a career research session, and a “consortium” session. The consortium provided them the chance to meet local business and college representatives. Students introduced themselves, asked questions and gathered information from those they were interested in.

This was a great learning opportunity not only for the sophomore class, but for Falconer FBLA. Chapter members learned the importance of planning details, communicating with internal and external contacts, spreadsheet design, aligning schedules, and acting in a professional manner as hosts of a large scale event. A total of 93 students viewed presentations.
