Chautauqua Lake Names Students Of Month

MAYVILLE — Students of the Month at Chautauqua Lake Central School, honored for November and December achievements, are Hannah Morrison, Grace Seekings, Sophia Shearer, Tatem Zemcik, Taylor Donato and Brady Phelps. The student recognition program honors students in grades seven through 12 whose classroom performance, attitude toward learning, work ethic and extra-curricular activities set them apart.

Senior Hannah Morrison is the daughter of Denver and Sarah Morrison of Sherman. Her favorite classes this year include health, psychology and science. Hannah’s dedication and well-rounded character are shown in her choice of activities: she has competed on the varsity swim team for six years; she has performed in the musical since eighth grade; and she has been an active member of National Honor Society for the past two years. Outside of school, Hannah enjoys participating in dance and 4-H, where she won the Senior Herdsman award and the Helping Hands Award. Hannah plans on attending SUNY Fredonia in the Speech Language Pathology Program.

Grace Elizabeth Seekings, daughter of Aaron and Lisa Seekings of Ashville, is a junior who enjoys her small animal science class at the Hewes Center the most this year. Grace enjoys riding horses in her spare time. In history, Grace most admires Lane Frost because “he was a famous pro-rodeo bull rider that was the youngest person entered in the Pro-Rider Hall of Fame.” Grace is still uncertain about future plans.

Sophomore Sophia Shearer is the daughter of Kenneth and Jennifer Shearer of Mayville. She is enjoying math and Spanish the most this year. Sophia competes on the High School Academic Bowl team, the Science Olympiad, and the Envirothon. She also participates in Language Club and the Peer Mentoring program. When asked what historical person she admires, Sophia said, “Theodora because she was highly influential in the Byzantine Empire by pushing for women’s rights way before it was commonplace.” After high school, Sophia plans to go to college for either mathematics or computer science.

Tatem Arianna Zemcik, a freshman, is the daughter of Thomas and Sarah Zemcik of Mayville. Her favorite classes are algebra, earth science, art and gym. Tatem competes on the school’s volleyball and softball teams, winning a Dedication Award for volleyball this year. Outside of school, she competes on the Cheetah Volleyball competitive travel team. Future plans for Tatem include finishing high school as one of the top five in her class, going to college and playing college volleyball, and attending law school to become either a criminal lawyer or a divorce attorney.

Eighth grader Taylor Olivia Donato is the daughter of Jason and Lee Donato of Dewittville. She enjoys art and science the most this year. Taylor has competed on the modified soccer team for two years. This year she is also competing on the JV basketball team after playing modified basketball as a seventh grader. Outside of school, she enjoys camping and participating in summer league sports. Taylor’s future plans include attending college and playing basketball and going to medical school.

Brady Quinn Phelps, a seventh grader, is the son of Bill and Katie Phelps of Ashville. This year Brady is enjoying all of his classes, although his favorite is social studies. Brady also enjoys performing in the band and competing on the modified soccer and basketball teams. He has made high honor roll this year. The person in history that he most admires is Ronald Reagan because “he helped stop communism in Russia and told Gorbachev to tear down the Berlin Wall. His future goals include going to the Air Force Academy before becoming a state trooper.
