Dolce Named City Council President

The longest serving Jamestown City Councilman in history will be the group’s next president.

On Monday, Brent Sheldon, Jamestown Republican Committee chairman and Ward 1 councilman, announced that the Republican majority of the council has approved Anthony Dolce, Ward 2 councilman, to be the next council president.

The official vote of the nine-member council will take place when all city elected officials are sworn in Jan. 1. The swearing-in ceremony, which will include new mayor-elect Eddie Sundquist, will take place at Jamestown Community College’s Scharmann Theater.

“Tony has by far the most experience of any council person and has acted as acting council president many times when the council president was unable to be a t a meeting”, Sheldon said.

Dolce will then assign the newly-elected council members to the four standing committees as well as the respective chairmen.

“The Republican majority looks forward to working with the new mayor and council members together as we approach the city of Jamestown’s challenges for the next two years”, Sheldon said.

Dolce was just re-elected to his 13th term on the council. At the start of 2020, Dolce will start his 25th year on the council, which is the longest tenure on the governing body of anyone in the city’s history. Dolce, during his current term, passed Vivian Taylor, who served a little more than 23 years, as the longest serving council member in history.
