Cassadaga Legion Auxiliary Holds October Meeting

The Cassadaga Legion Auxiliary held its regular monthly meeting at the Legion Post on Oct. 8 with all officer’s present, 12 senior members, one junior and one guest attending.

President Lauren Sharp opened the meeting in regular fashion with the Pledge of Allegiance, the Preamble and a moment of silence for fallen soldiers. Chaplain Paula Pattison gave the opening prayer. Secretary Carol Baker read the previous meeting minutes and treasurer Sue DeGolier gave the financial report. Both were accepted as read. Correspondence was also read by the secretary.

Pat Hayward presented junior member Mattea Hilliker with a “Good Deeds” certificate from the Department of New York. Mattie has worked hard on projects benefiting veterans, the Ronald McDonald House, and the group’s unit.

Sharp reminded members that their committee reports to County Committee chairpersons are be due by Nov. 1. The “Plan of Action” forms needed for these reports are available online on the “American Legion Auxiliary website” or check with her.

Reports by the committee chairs:

¯ Pattison reported she has sent out sympathy and “thinking of you” cards to unit members;

¯ Constitution and by-laws chairperson Sally Lawson will take care of sending in the paperwork for change of meeting time, (6:30 p.m.); members will meet every second Tuesday of the month except July.

Lawson also noted for education that “Box Tops for Education” will no longer be accepted as they are now to be phone scanned with their “App” and sent to a school of your choice.

The Empire Girl’s State representative, Alegria Solares, spoke at the county Auxiliary meeting held in September. She said she enjoyed her experience and that she learned a lot about state government.

Under old business, the group’s annual vendor showcase and bake sale will be held Saturday, Oct. 26, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Karen Field is taking table reservations, and those interested are asked to call 499-9887.

The annual children’s Halloween party will be held Sunday, Oct. 27, from 1-3 p.m. It is open to children of all ages.

The county meeting will be held at Post 1280 on Friday, Oct. 25. The Nov. 14 county Auxiliary meeting will be at Unit 1280. It will be a dessert meeting at 7 p.m. All reservations for units planning to attend are asked to call 640-5923.

With no further business at hand, a closing prayer was held, and the meeting was closed at 7:55 p.m. The unit’s next meeting is Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 6:30 p.m.
