Lion’s Club To Host ‘Walk For Diabetes’

The Jamestown chapter of the International Lions Club will be hosting an inaugural ‘Walk for Diabetes’ on September 28 at YMCA Camp Onyahsa on East Lake Road in Dewittville.

Proceeds from the event, which will include both a beginners and a more advanced walking/hiking trail, will benefit Camp Onyahsa’s Summer Camp for Youth with Diabetes, a weeklong residential camp program aimed at enhancing healthcare, diabetes education, dietary guidelines for children with Type I or Type II Diabetes, along with traditional camp activities.

Individuals and teams can register for the event by searching Lions Club Walk for Diabetes at Eventbrite.com. Sign-in for the event begins at 9 a.m.

The event, in partnership with The Chautauqua Center, will feature educational information from area providers, family friendly activities in partnership with the YMCA, a live performance with local musical act Deep Fried and Dipped in Honey, and light refreshments. Sponsors and supporters include Wegmans, TOPS Friendly Markets and the Whirlybird Music and Arts Festival.

Lions from around the world voted to make diabetes a primary cause moving into the future. For more information, visit Jamestown-NY Lions Club on Facebook.
