The Jamestown Board of Public Utilities has begun sanitary sewer slip lining on several Jamestown streets.

Streets on which slip lining will occur include:

¯ Baker from Newland to Barrett;

¯ Barrett from McKinley to Hazeltine;

¯ Camp from Roland to Collins and Sanford;

¯ Collins from Camp to E. Virginia;

¯ Delevan, Indiana, Connecticut and Pennsylvania from Baker to City View;

¯ Forest Avenue from South to Wilton;

¯ Hallock from Newland to West Third;

¯ Highland from Summit to Pershing;

¯ Kenmore and Widrig from Hallock to McDaniel;

¯ Newland Avenue from Baker to City View;

¯ Newland from Huxley to Hallock;

¯ Sanford from Laura and English to Camp Street;

¯ South from Forest to Jackson Avenue;

¯ Trenton from Newland to Norton;

¯ Valleyview Avenue, from Hebner to Collins; and

¯ Whitehill Avenue, line in park/school yard.

The job will cover 5.7 miles of sanitary sewer lines, which is six times the number that have been lined in past BPU sanitary sewer lining projects.

Kenyon Pipeline Inspection LLC of Queensbury will carry out the work. A state Environmental Facilities Corporation grant will pay for 25%, or $230,000 of the project, with the BPU funding the remainder of the undertaking.

Slip-lining is a method of “trenchless rehabilitation” of existing sewer lines, to repair leaks or restore structural stability to an existing pipeline, at a significantly reduced cost.

Slip lining is completed by installing a smaller “carrier pipe” into a larger “host pipe” with high density polyethylene (HDPE) plastic. When the HDPE is heated as part of the process, it takes the shape of the existing sewer line, sealing any cracks or imperfections that may be in the pipe.

When customers observe slip lining on streets, they can expect to see steam coming from the equipment at either end of the work area. The BPU Water Resources Division advises residents to limit water use when the process happens on their individual streets. Kenyon Pipeline Inspection LLC personnel will notify residents with door tags and/or brochures prior to work on specific streets.

Starting at $3.50/week.
