Southwestern Elementary Student To Take Part In Youth Leadership Forum

Ejuah Sarvaiya of Lakewood will join elementary school students from across the state at the National Youth Leadership Forum: Pathways to STEM, taking place in Pittsburgh.

Pathways to STEM is part of the Envision group of programs that helps students explore their interests and experience learning outside the classroom.

Ejuah was nominated to attend the forum by Troy Moran, one of his teachers at Southwestern Elementary School. In addition to school activities, Ejuah plays soccer, baseball and tennis. He is a member of St. James Roman Catholic Church, where he took part in his first communion in May. Ejuah said he is looking forward to the forum, but is most interested in the engineering aspect and gaining hands-on experience the forum will provide in building and programming his own MBot.

“As an alumna of Envision myself, I am excited for Ejuah to meet, work and collaborate with fellow high-aspiring students from other cities and schools,” said Amanda Freitag Thomas, Envision senior vice president. “Hands down, my favorite part of attending an Envision program was being with motivated students in an environment designed to help us challenge our assumptions, meet new people and grow. Creating that same learning environment is a central focus for all of our programs. At NYLF Pathways to STEM, students build the confidence and skills needed to excel in the classroom while gaining exposure to STEM fields and concepts. They learn how to adapt to and communicate in new situations, to new challenges and with new people, which given how rapidly the world is changing due to technology and innovation, are essential skills for success.”

Ejuah is a third-grader at Southwestern Elementary School and is the son of Salim and Samantha Savraiya.
