Patterson Library Holds Summer Reading Program

WESTFIELD — Every Monday at 11:15 a.m. through Aug. 5, the Patterson Library in Westfield will have a special program for the “A Universe of Stories” summer reading program.

The events are free and open to the public. Every Wednesday through July 31 are special summer reading story time groups in Patterson Park. Special teen nights will be held Friday, July 12, Friday, July 26 and Friday, Aug. 9, from 7 to 10 p.m. in the lower level of the library.

Tuesday, July 23, the adult summer reading group will meet with Charles Freedom Long, a local sci-fi author. On Thursday, July 25, there will be an adult summer reading program mixer in the library’s Pergola Garden at 6 p.m. The mixer is free and open to the public.

Some other recurring events in July are Dancing with Your Soul in the Pergola Garden every Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. The Knit and Knatter Club meets at 1 p.m. Tuesdays in the main reading room for knitters, crocheters, crafters, quilters. Every Thursday through Aug. 1, Kay Barlow will be perform music in Patterson Park from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. Th Write Now Writer’s Group meets Thursday, July 25, in the reference room at 6 p.m.

On Friday, the Octagon Gallery will unveil the works of artist Tom Ferraro at 7 p.m.. Also on Friday the library will have a table at First Friday by Peaceful Designs as it prepares for its Books-N-More Galore Sale from July 18-20 during normal library hours. On Wednesday, July 17, the library will have its exclusive Books and Brew as a pre-sale event for Patterson Society Members to have first dibs at the merchandise for the Books-N-More Galore Sale. To join the Patterson Society before the event, call the front desk at 326-2154. Donations are being accepted for the sale through Monday and include board and card games, DVDs, blue-rays, hobby kits and books.

The library will host Winifred Montgomery on Thursday, July 18, speaking about “Hacking the Teenage Brain.” On Tuesday, July 23, the Alzheimer’s Association will be at the library to present “Healthy Living for Brain and Body” at 5 p.m. At 6 p.m. July 24, the library will host a survey meeting for a new mystery book club. Jill Mattson will visit the library on July 25 to talk about “Healing With Crystals.” The Decho Ensemble will make its debut at the Patterson Library on Friday, July 26, at 7 p.m. Culinary Creations will be at the library at noon July 31 to discuss local specialty recipes during their regular meeting.

The library also host a library fundraiser on Tuesdays, July 30, Aug. 13 and Aug. 20. Patterson Paint with a Pinot in the Pergola is hosted by Nancy Nixon-Ensign, Octagon Gallery curator. Tickets at $35 each, and include all supplies and two glasses of wine.
