Annual Mel Perks Motorcycle Run Is Saturday
FREWSBURG — The Mel Perks Motorcycle Run to benefit Chautauqua Hospice and Palliative Care will take place Saturday at the Frewsburg Legion.
The day will begin with coffee and doughnuts at 9 a.m. at the Legion. Registration will be open until 10:45 a.m. Free-will donations will be accepted as registration for the ride. The run will start with kickstands up promptly at 11 a.m. and follow a scenic route around the countryside returning to the legion in the early afternoon.
A barbecue lunch will be waiting for the riders when they return, as well as the general public, for $10. Live music will be provided by Steel Horse from 2-6 p.m. There will be auctions for a 50-inch HDTV, a $1,000 gift certificate toward an Amish shed, baskets and 50/50.
The event is not just for motorcycle riders. The fun, food and music are for all adults and Hospice supporters to enjoy.
This will be the seventh annual benefit in memory of Perks, who died in 2012 after a brief illness, and has raised over $46,000 for CHPC since its inception. Perks was a U.S. Army veteran who served in Vietnam. He was employed by the former Jamestown Sterlingworth for 20 years, where he retired as plant manager. He later owned the Frewsburg News Room and Mel’s Place in Falconer.
