County Officials To Commemorate World Elder Abuse Awareness Day On Friday In Mayville

MAYVILLE — On Friday, at 1 p.m., outside of the Gerace Office Building in Mayville, the Chautauqua County Council on Elder Abuse, County Executive George Borrello, Christine Schuyler, county social services and public health commissioner, and Mary Ann Spanos, county Office for the Aging director, will be commemorating World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

The International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse and the World Health Organization at the United Nations launched the first World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) on June 15, 2006, in an effort to unite communities around the world in raising awareness about elder abuse.

“Chautauqua County has a large population of seniors and many of them are vulnerable to abuse or being taken advantage of,” Borrello said. “I am proud to once again support this effort with our community partners to provide preventive measures and justice for our seniors.”
