Mozart Scholarship Winners Announced

The Mozart Club introduced the two scholarship winners for this year at its annual meeting held May 8 at the Marvin House.

Sopranos Sofia Isabella and Adrianna Burgos, the winners, were presented a program of songs for the members.

Isabella sang “O Pieta Signore” and from Gianni Schicchi, “OMio Babino Caro.” Burgos sang “Loris” by Aaron Copeland and “Serenada Gitana” by Miguel Sandoval.

Isabella is a senior at Jamestown High School and studies voice with Marjorie Switala, piano with Cathy Gagliano and violin with Nina Karbaka.

A winner of the New York State VFW speech competition and Chautauqua Area scholarship winner, listeners to WJTN may be familiar with her voice as announcer for The Breakfast Club.

She was the lead in this year’s “Guys and Dolls” school musical, sings A’Capella and Madrigals and performed at level 6 at NYSSMA.

She is the winner of a CCMTA (Chautauqua County Music Teachers Association) scholarship for voice: soprano.

She will attend SUNY Fredonia.

Burgos is a senior at Forestville High School. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, Class of 2019 Student Council, winner of a CCMTA scholarship and received the Ted Turner Award for highest points in adjudication.

In addition to singing, she plays the trumpet in marching band, jazz ensemble and percussion ensemble.

She will attend SUNY Fredonia.

The next meeting will be a board meeting on June 5 at 11 a.m. at the Marvin House.
