103 Compete In VFW Bowling Tournament

MAYVILLE — The 14th annual “Don’t Know Your Partner” Bowling Tournament recently hosted by Lake Chautauqua Memorial VFW Post 8647 at Lucky Lanes in Fredonia raised $7,300 to benefit the services of Chautauqua Hospice and Palliative Care.

A group of 103 bowlers competed in the day-long tournament, which included giveaways, auction items and a banquet at the VFW following bowling. Sean Patrick McGraw provided live music. Tournament winners included:Keith Warner and Rick Cole, first place; Dakota Ryan and Al Briggs, second place; and Mary Shafer and Staci Bemis, third place.

“My uncle, Bill Larson, started this event as a novel way to curb cabin fever.” said tournament chairperson Shannon Larson. “It continues to grow every year. I would like to express my sincere appreciation to those individuals and local businesses that supported this event by sponsoring lanes, donating auction items, volunteering time, purchasing raffle tickets and joining us for a fun day of bowling.”

Andrew Dickson, vice president of community engagement and planning at Chautauqua Hospice and Palliative Care, acknowledged the continued support of the group.

“The Chautauqua Lake Memorial VFW Post No. 8647 has been an important financial support for many years,” Dickson said. “This year’s event brings the total support that has been raised in support of our mission to over $70,000. We are grateful to all the volunteers, merchants and donors who make the Don’t Know Your Partner Bowling Tournament such a fun and successful event.”
