Legion Aux Holds Meetings

CASSADAGA — The Cassadaga Legion Auxiliary held its regular monthly at the Legion Post on March 12, with 10 members present, six officers and one guest.

President Bev Speelberg opened the meeting in regular fashion with the Pledge of Allegiance, the Preamble and a moment of silence for our fallen soldiers. Chaplain Paula Pattison gave the opening prayer. President Bev welcomed everyone.

In the absence of Secretary, Carol Baker, Paula Pattison read the previous meeting minutes. Correspondence was also read by Paula Pattison which included a thank you from the Buffalo VA for ladies purses and toiletries that Unit 1280 donated for the lady Veterans.

The guest was Post 1280 Commander Rusty Jones, who addressed the meeting about the upcoming Post 1280 celebration to commemorate the American Legion’s 100th birthday. There is a dinner planned for the Post 1280 members and guests; after dinner there will be a short program with award presentations, and music to follow.

Reports by the committee chairs:

¯ Chaplain Paula reported that since the group’s last meeting, the unit has had four members pass away; she sent out many get well and sympathy cards to members’ families.

¯ For the Juniors, Pat Hayward reported they have made Valentine’s for Senior’s, and are working on things for Easter. Pat mentioned she is in the process of applying for two awards for one of our juniors.

¯ Membership was reported that our Unit is at 66 percent for the year.

Under new business, it was noted that our annual Rummage Sale that will be held on May 18. Further plans were discussed at the April meeting.

¯ There was also discussion on needing a nomination committee for the slate of our 2019-20 officers.

With no further business at hand, the chaplain gave a closing prayer.

The group also met on April 9. There were 11 members present, including seven officers, plus the Chautauqua County President Pat Hayward.

The meeting was opened in regular fashion. Secretary Carol Baker read the March meeting minutes, and Treasurer Sue DeGolier gave the financial report; both were accepted as read. Correspondence was read by Carol Baker.

Committee reports were as follows:

¯ For Children & Youth, it was reported that the children’s Easter party went well.

¯ Nothing yet has been confirmed on our having an Empire Girl’s State entrant for this year. The group may change our interview procedure for next year.
