Rodeo City Seniors Hear Guest Speaker

GERRY — The Rodeo City Senior Citizens met for their monthly luncheon and program at the Gerry United Methodist Church, with guest speaker Nancy Dunbar, of the Chautauqua Opportunities.

Dunbar discussed some of the community services for those with dementia or alzheimers. She said there are support groups in Jamestown, Gerry, Westfield and Dunkirk. The main purpose is to help people deal with those who have these problems. There is also Respite care to provide some relief for the care givers. They help develop individualized plans of care. Brochures were given to all, and a very informative speech was presented.

The senior group, which meets once a month on the second Friday at noon, had a luncheon with many dishes of food provided by the members. President Allen Swanson welcomed all, and Pastor Phil Shay gave the blessing prior to the meal. Festive table decorations for St. Patrick’s Day were provided by Cecil and Janet Miller. The pledge to the flag was led by president Swanson.

Secretary Peg Harrison read the minutes of the previous meeting, and treasurer Barb Swanson gave the financial report. There were birthdays announced, and the birthday song was sung by all to Linda Parmenter.

At the next meeting on Friday, April 12, all those attending are asked to bring a dish of food to add to the meal, and their own table service. Table decorations for the month of April will be provided by Jim and Lucy Marzalen, and there will be a program following the meal. This meeting closed with all singing “Blest Be The Tie That Binds” written by John Fawcett in 1772 and led by Miller.

Starting at $3.50/week.
