Westfield Seniors Hold Meeting

WESTFIELD — Twenty-seven members attended the Westfield Senior Citizens’ recent meeting held at the Westfield YWCA.

The New Horizons Saxtette entertained the group before joining the members for a submarine sandwich luncheon with desserts.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by members after Shirley Kolpien shared a couple of jokes. Pat Sciarrino, president, recited “Psalms of Thanksgiving” to open the meeting. The secretary’s report was read and accepted. The treasurer’s report by Pat Everts was read and accepted. The 50-50 giveaway was won by Merle Wertz. Jan Van Ord’s name was called for the door prize. Winning drawings were called from the silent auction.

Delores Kaufman, sunshine chairman, reported birthdays for Dave Cochran, Kathy Kenney, Carol Reynolds, Carolyn Clancy and herself. Cards were sent to Ann Cochran and Judy Sumption. Cochran will take donations of hats, gloves, mittens and hats from members to her daughter for Union Relief Christmas gifts.

An executive decision was made to provide a ham, scalloped potato, squash and applesauce dinner for the December luncheon. Desserts will be provided by the kitchen committee. Members are asked to bring their own table service. Suggestions were made for 2019 programs, including: Bill Ward, the Centerstage Dancers,Kent Knappenberger’s music students from Westfield Academy and Central School, the Office for the Aging and John Hamels.

Nominations for officers are: Sciarrino, president; David Cochran, vice president; Everts, treasurer; and Ann Cochran, secretary. Installation will be Dec. 13.

The December meeting will be an $8 to $10 gift exchange. Pauline Emilson will do a Christmas sing-along.

The serenity prayer was recited to end the meeting.
