CHAUTAUQUA — The recently held 19th annual Lake Chautauqua Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8647 golf tournament raised $4,500 for the Mayville Food Pantry.

The tournament was held at the Chautauqua Hill Golf Course with 92 golfers participating.

“Thank you is not enough for the success of the tournament,” said Bill Larson, tournament chairman and member of VFW Auxiliary. “I would like to thank hole sponsors, prize donors, volunteers, and participants.”

Debby Marsala, Mayville Food Pantry coordinator, expressed her appreciation to the post and its community. She reported an increasing number of families are using the services offered by the Mayville Food Pantry, especially those with children. Nearly 100 households are provided with food each month; most of those families have jobs, but “just cannot stretch their food budget to last through the end of the month due to rising grocery, utility, and gasoline costs.” Federal poverty guidelines are used to determine eligibility.

Located at 99 S. Erie St., the Mayville Food Pantry is affiliated with St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. All parishes and service organizations located within the Chautauqua Lake Central School District have a representative on the Board of Directors. The food pantry is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
