Mayville Senior Citizens Meet For Sloppy Joe Lunch

MAYVILLE — About 40 senior citizens were served a sloppy joe lunch with salads and desserts at a recent Mayville Senior Citizens meeting.

Sandy and Jeff Wagner cooked the meal. Bonnie Johnson, president, began the meeting. Arleen Kurtz said a prayer before lunch and before the meeting. All joined in saying the Lord’s Prayer. Johnson led the Pledge of Allegiance. The secretary and treasurer reports were read and accepted.

Jeff Wagner noted the Senior Council’s Social will be at the Ashville Fire Hall. Mary Carlson, goodwill chairperson, listed August birthdays and cards sent. The Wagners, the group’s tour directors, requested all to think about trips they may want to take next year and give them recommendations. The kitchen committee, composed of Louise Richir, Joyce Ayers, Nancy Cole and Dolly Gilbert, were thanked. Door prizes were won by Arlene Kurtz, Rex Wilson, Joyce Ayers, Barb Davis and Herb Magnuson.

Bill Tornstrom, program chairperson, introduced Douglas Conroe, Chautauqua Lake Association, Inc. executive director, who spoke about the ups and downs of Chautauqua Lake, mostly ups.

The group will meet at noon Sept. 6 at the Mayville VFW. Those attending are asked to bring a dish to pass and their own table service. Angelo Alaimo from Bemus Point will be playing the harmonica, with a variety of old favorites.
